MACHAKOS DIOCESE – REASONS FOR REQUEST TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 2023 MCP
1. Health Programs. The health programs include MCH (Mother Child Health) designed to enable women and children access quality pre- and post- maternal health care aimed at reducing infant and maternal mortalities.
2. The water programs designed to reduce water-borne diseases and bring quality water nearer homesteads to ensure that women and the girl-child do not spend many hours every day walking long distances to fetch water.
Providing quality water to families will ensure that:
a. women save time from drawing water and engage in productive
activities; and
b. women have more time to take care of their families.
For the girl-child, time saved will:
c. reduce rates of class lateness and school absenteeism by the
girl-child; and
d. time saved will also free up time for the girl-child to study and
compete with the boy-child more effectively.
We are seeking support to provide water to more homesteads in Machakos Diocese.
3. Maintain four institutions for children orphaned by HIV/AIDS.
HIV/AIDS has had a devastating effect on families as with the death of both parents, children are left helpless without parents. Machakos Diocese has programs for the children orphaned by HIV/AIDS children and is seeking support to continue helping these orphaned children.
4. Support 78 orphaned children at Uganda Martyrs’ home with tuition fee for education, which is regarded as the best gift you can offer to an African child. In educating the orphans and the poor kids, we are empowering and helping them to transform themselves, preparing them not only for the competition in society but also help them support themselves and their families.
5. Provide support to St. Patrick Vocational Training Center. This program is designed to integrate people with developmental disabilities in society, making them realize their self-worth as individuals and as part of society. Individuals are assigned roles in the community to make them feel they are making contributions in society. Some of the skills we empower them include tailoring; carpentry; welding; shoe making and other skills that can make them self- reliant.
6. Provide support to seminarians in formation and train Catechists and Lay Catholic Leaders to reach out to populations sparsely spread out in the Diocese.
7. Provide support for adoption of improved agricultural production technology within the Diocese so that farmers can more efficiently produce increased quality yields.
