Mission Appeal:

Viridiane’s Hope for Children’s Health and Education is a Virginia-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit and Catholic Charity of the Arlington Diocese, founded in 2019 in Springfield, Virginia. The organization was established by grieving parents as a way to honor their daughter’s memory, transforming sorrow into hope for children in underserved communities. The mission of Viridiane’s Hope is to improve the lives of children and families in both local and global contexts, with a current geographic focus on rural, impoverished areas of Cameroon, Central West Africa. Many of these communities face significant hardships, including large populations of internal refugees fleeing armed unrest in the Northwest and Southwest regions, where children are among the most vulnerable.

Viridiane’s Hope operates entirely with volunteers, ensuring that every contribution directly supports its projects. The organization provides sustainable access to essential resources—such as clean water, health care, and quality education—to empower children and families to break the cycle of poverty. Its work encompasses a range of activities: drilling drinking water wells powered by either electricity or solar energy (each well with water tower is about $20K, depending on hydrogeological conditions and the specifications of the associated tower), building and renovating schools and sanitation facilities, delivering health education, distributing school and medical supplies, and supporting community development. Viridiane’s Hope’s approach is holistic, addressing both immediate needs and fostering long-term resilience, always guided by dignity, compassion, and faith-based values.

The organization’s commitment to the corporal works of mercy is realized through international outreach, with missionary teams traveling to Cameroon since 2022. In 2025, partnerships with groups like the Nativity Knights enabled projects such as constructing an outdoor cafeteria for over 1,200 students, drilling water wells, renovating chapels and altars, supporting the sick, creating gardens, planting banana trees, and launching an international letter exchange for youth. This partnership expanded in 2026 to include a joint mission trip to Cameroon with Commissioned by Christ in October 2026.

Over the past five years, Viridiane’s Hope efforts have directly benefited more than 16,000 children and families, fostering better health, higher school attendance, and stronger communities. Its work currently supports 17 schools, 6 orphanages, and numerous youth-focused initiatives in the Dioceses of Mamfe, Nkongsamba, Bafang, Bafoussam, and the Archdioceses of Douala, Bamenda, and Yaoundé, with a steadfast goal to reduce poverty through education and healthcare.
